What it usually means
Check what it followed. If it came after you declined something, it is usually about the refusal, not your character.
The work that gets called "team" work is often the work nobody is rewarded for.
What else it can mean
- A refusal, priced. You said no to something and this is the cost.
- Real friction. A colleague felt left out of a decision you made.
- Solo credit. You were seen claiming something the group thinks was shared.
What to find out first
What it came after. The request you turned down, or the meeting where it was said — the phrase makes sense only next to it.
What the research says, and where it stops
Tasks everyone would rather someone else did are disproportionately volunteered for by, asked of and accepted by the people seen as most likely to say yes.
